Report from the Dock
A forecast and summary of hunting and fishing
The continued stretch of nice weather has kept many boats out of storage and more anglers than usual on the water for this time of year. Most anglers are now fishing for walleyes, crappies, or muskies. Large sucker minnows continue to dominate muskie reports, while a jig and minnow or crankbaits are turning the majority of walleyes. In most cases, walleyes are relating to shorelines, points, or shallow structure. Scopers continue to find big muskies suspended over deep water, but they will start sliding shallower, especially on lakes with tullibees as they begin to think about spawning. Water temperatures haven’t changed much statewide since last week, so crappies remain active along old weedbeds in less than 12 feet or suspended over deep basin areas on most lakes. Many reports indicated that deer have become more active, and a solid number of reports indicated that the youth deer season was productive for most.
