NEW YORK — New York City’s iconic Plaza Hotel is closing for a four-year renovation of its historic facade.

The closure, which is set to begin in January, will accommodate repairs to the hotel’s landmarked exterior, ensuring guest safety and adhering to preservation requirements, Plaza management said in a statement.

It did not reveal the cost and details of the restoration project.

A spokesman for the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council said its 378 members who work at the Plaza will have the right to return to their jobs with the same pay when the hotel reopens.

Rising 18 storeys at the southeast corner of Central Park, the Henry Janeway Hardenbergh-designed Plaza has become one of the city’s most recognizable hotels.

Owners since it opened in 1907 include U.S. President Donald Trump, who purchased the Plaza in 1988.

Trump, who featured in the 1992 film Home Alone 2 in a scene filmed at the Plaza, sold the hotel at a loss in 1995.
