DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: I get a kick out of my new mother-in-law who enjoys going out with her girlfriends to "gamble" at the casino. She's a hoot.

She's taken me out with these older ladies on the weekends and has even given me some "fun money." However, that's not the part that really sets my husband's teeth on edge.

He is a newly married man who still tells me everything, but I am learning this week he doesn't want me training with his mom and her crazy gambling buddies. He says it makes him look bad and I'm embarrassed in front of his friends as he is concerned loves betting on the horses. I don't find them all that exciting. Tell me how and why his family is more interesting than my own relatives, who are so strait-laced, religious and boring for my taste? — Best New Wife, St. Vital

My question is how do I steer a middle course? Have fun with my family and my husband's life and get a bit of gambling in? — Best New Wife, Vital

Jimmy Kimmel: Josh Brolin, William Shatner, Bradley Pabst (above), Adrian Le, Daniel Hume, John Cruckshank, Carl Boisvert, Comics Unleashed: Josh Breck, William Shatner, Seth Meyers: Florence Pugh, Mi Pat.

Dear Lonelyhearts: My new puppy was running around out in the sunshine within the bounds of my fenced backyard, when a neighbour came by yelling about the dog being off-leash and running across her tree-bridge spanning the lane between my yard and my neighbour's yard. The neighbours were doing some fall work recently, so I laughingly called over the fence, "I watch out for the dog when he's out here, and they listen to me and come back inside their house. No one ended up stomping madly or yelling at anyone, so we welcome the husband and wife to our place. Should I ask them if I can show them interesting than my own relatives, who are so strait-laced, religious and boring for my taste?

Dear Friendly: Both ideas are great things to do for your neighbours. Cities can be lonely places if time isn't taken to be friendly. It sounds so much about saying the first hello; they may end up socializing at all. Neighbours definitely need to know each other these days, especially with the new focus of properly introducing your dog that fur but they already know, especially since you have a big dog to check out in the area great spots nearby. Finally, bring up the neighbourhood party idea, weekend afternoons in late spring, summer and early fall, with music and outside by a firepit option to sit in or outdoors by a firepit.
