DAVID YOUNG

David Young passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026, at the age of 92. He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Myrtle Young, his sister Donna Harrison, and his brother Jack Young.

David is lovingly remembered by Audrey, his wife of 66 years; his daughter, Lisa (Mike Griffin); his grandsons, David and Josh; his many nieces and nephews and their families; and his dear friend Diane Kunic.

Born in a house built by his grandfather on the family homestead near Birtle, Manitoba, David worked on the farm until age 16 and maintained a lifelong interest in agriculture, the land, and the natural environment. His education began at the single-room Rothesay School and eventually led him to United College, where he met Audrey, and later to the University of Michigan, where he earned a master's degree in Resource Management.

Over the course of a varied career, David worked for the Hudson's Bay Company, the Manitoba civil service, and the Manitoba Premier's Office before becoming a management consultant, entrepreneur, and adjunct faculty member at the Natural Resources Institute at the University of Manitoba. In 1977, he purchased a property on the Birch River in eastern Manitoba, where he devoted decades to gardening, habitat restoration, and building an energy-efficient home. Visitors to the farm rarely went home empty-handed.

A gifted storyteller with a sharp wit and wide-ranging curiosity, David was a devoted husband and father and the beloved "Silly Grandpa" to his grandsons.

He died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on his own terms and on a day of his choosing.

The family extends thanks to the staff of Brightwater Tuxedo for their care and kindness during David's final year.

In accordance with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. Those wishing to honour David's memory are invited to make a donation to the Henteleff Park Foundation.
