TWO ARRESTED IN MCPHILLIPS ROBBERY
TWO suspects were arrested after a hatchet was used to smash display cases during a robbery at a business on McPhillips Street Wednesday evening.
Winnipeg police were called to the 700 block of McPhillips shortly after 8:30 p.m. after a man and woman entered a business, smashed several glass display cases and stole a significant amount of merchandise. Police, in a release Friday, said one of the suspects was armed with a hatchet.
Both suspects fled but were arrested without incident a short time later near Sinclair Street and Pritchard Avenue. Police recovered the stolen merchandise, along with the hatchet.
A 38-year-old man has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon and failing to comply with a probation order. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants for breaching probation and release orders. Police continue to investigate.
