EDGAR JOSEPH LANGEVIN

EDGAR JOSEPH LANGEVIN
December 21, 1932 - October 11, 2026
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, Edgar Joseph Langevin died peacefully having faced the challenges of failing health and mobility that comes with age. During his life, he both overcame and lived with numerous health problems including heart issues and multiple types of cancer.
Ed is survived by his three children, Jo-Ellen (Sharon) of Kempville, Ontario, Cheryl (David), and two grandchildren, Richard and Jennifer, of whom he was very proud, and Rev. Fr. Gerald Langevin of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his wives, Joan Mary (nee Biskay) married 1963 to 1997 until her death, and Mary Petrycia married 2000 to 2020 until her death, and his parents, Joseph Alphonse Langevin and Annie Edna (nee Jones).
Ed was born in Souris, Manitoba on December 21, 1932. Upon his family’s move to Winnipeg, he attended St. Edward’s Catholic School and St. Paul’s High School. After some time working at CPR as a telegraph operator, he returned to school at St. Paul’s College at the University of Manitoba, receiving his Bachelor of Arts and Education. He taught two years at Gordon Bell High School, from 1966 to 1968. He then taught Business Law at Red River College for 23 years from 1968 to 1991. Upon his retirement for health reasons in 1992, he was grateful over the years to hear from past students.
Looking back fondly on his teenage years, he developed enduring friendships with the “gang” as they were known and looked forward to their periodic reunions when they met for lunch and swapped stories from the old days. In the course of more recent times after some of the friends died, their times together allowed the remaining few to reminisce and celebrate the fun they had together.
During his retirement years, he had the occasion to travel, spending some winter months in the Palm Springs area which included golf when he was able. When at home in the winter, he also had a membership at the Golf Dome to hit golf balls and have coffee and share with his “Dome Duffer” buddies swapping stories.
Ed’s faith journey was important to him, from his upbringing in parochial school, to his participation in parish life and outreach. In addition to participating as a volunteer at the papal visit of St. John Paul II in 1984 with our Mom, Joan, he also had the honour of assisting at the rebuild of an apartment, now home to the Missionaries of Charity, as well as volunteering to serve Christmas Dinner at the Soup Kitchen. He considered it a great honour to meet St. Theresa of Calcutta and continued to contribute to the Sisters until the time of his passing. Having taken a course in Pastoral Care visitation after he retired, he became a Communion Minister to the Sick at Riverview Health Centre and volunteered in that capacity for a 15-year period. He spoke with fondness of the opportunity to visit the sick and marveled at their outlook on life despite their physical limitations.
We would like to thank Dr. Catherine Moltzan and the oncology department at the St. Boniface Hospital, Dr. John Milner, urologist at the Assiniboine Clinic, Dr. Angela Schellenberg at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Dr. Shoewu in Selkirk as well as Dr. Femi Ehigiator at the Sherbrook Clinic and more recently, the doctors, nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital for the past nine weeks.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave., with his son, Rev. Fr. Gerald Langevin as celebrant. Cremation to follow.
