Jack (James) Edward Rafferty

October 17, 1929 - September 10, 2025

A year has gone since Jack’s passing. He is missed by his children Shane (Holly) and Jim (Rosemary) as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His youth was filled with spending time romping through Elmwood with his many siblings and friends or playing his beloved lacrosse. He developed a passion for sport early and spent many years competing for the Elmwood Terriers.

During his teens Jack was onto the workforce and busy charming his eventual wife, Jackie, into a long life together. Following Jack’s career in the meat packing industry, he and Jackie moved a handful of times but spent a majority in Thunder Bay and Winnipeg before settling in Waterloo. In his later career, Jack travelled abroad regularly with time in South Asia being a repeated highlight.

When time wasn’t filled with work, Jack could be found toiling away at one of his many hobbies. He was a master gardener, fish pond aficionado and golf wiz. He spent many years as a dedicated member of the Galt Country Club as well as a member and volunteer at Foxwood Golf Club. His passions kept him entertained and out of Jackie’s kitchen.

After Jackie’s death in 2022, Jack moved into Bridgepark Manor in Steinbach where he was cared for by wonderful staff and made friends with many of the other residents. In his last years some of his favourite activities included (re)telling stories of his salesman days, chatting Jets or Bombers and offering golf advice to anyone who would listen. Family visits remained his number one, when great grandkids came to play shuffleboard and be wowed by his pool skills.

He is remembered well and is surely hoping everyone is fertilizing their tomatoes and lawns.
