DEBORAH BARTLEY
With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Deborah Bartley, who left us after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Deb was an avid traveler whose love of adventure began early in life. As a young woman, she lived abroad, spending time in Greece and Mexico as a student. She embraced new cultures and experiences, carrying that curiosity and appreciation for the world throughout her life. She loved to explore both her own local community as well as other countries on her own, or alongside her favourite travel companion, her beloved mother.
Deb was a natural artist whose creative endeavours included painting, music, and her extravagant Christmas dessert trays. Deb found great joy in nature and took immense pride in creating beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces. She cherished time spent in her yard, surrounded by her dogs and cats, and always enjoyed the visits from her faithful hummingbirds. Her whimsical gardens were the site of the annual family Easter hunt which will be fondly remembered by her nephews.
Throughout her life, Deb enjoyed a distinguished professional career in both law and hospital administration. Later, she returned to academia, earning a degree from Royal Roads University, where she was recognized with a Chancellor's Award for her academic excellence. Her determination, many artistic pursuits, and commitment to lifelong learning inspired all who knew her.
Brave, resilient, and full of grace, Deb refused to let cancer diminish her love of life or her commitment to taking care of her loved ones. Her strength and optimism remained unwavering, even in the face of extraordinary challenges.
Deb is lovingly remembered by her mother, Lillian; her brothers, Ken, Wade, and Bryan; her sisters-in-law, Katherine, Molly, and Angie; and her nephews, Case, Carson, and Shilo. She was predeceased by her father, Jack. She will also be deeply missed by her many friends, colleagues, and all whose lives were enriched by her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit.
Big hugs, Deb. You will be forever loved and greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local cancer society or cancer clinic in recognition of the remarkable compassion and care they provide to patients and families every day.
